Summary

Gadgets give players bonuses for certain periods of time depending upon which gadget it is. To use a gadget it has to be in your home city. Gadgets can give you the edge in fights, mining and in the market.

Effects

Each gadget gives you a different bonus and lasts for a certain amount of time. There are two groups of 6 gadgets, each with two different levels. Each level increases duration, but the effect stays the same. The duration begins from when you activate the item from the GADGETS page, which will immediately remove it from your inventory. Gadgets are simply gone after you've used them, and cannot be sold once you have activated them. There are 2 stones regarding gadgets: Hacked - Activate a gadget. Cracked - Have 180 days worth of gadgets activated.

Tin Gadgets

Last for 0.5 days.

  • Whetting stone - Vehicles/Land: 10% bonus weapon offense and an increased chance to damage vehicles and their items. Ships/Sea: 10% bonus critical (criticals are double damage) hit chance. Aircraft: 40% bonus to bomb damage. Only applies to vehicles sent after you have activated the gadget. Lasts for each vehicle until they reach their destination.
  • Shield - Vehicles/Land: 10% bonus weapon defense and a reduced chance of being damaged. Ships/Sea: 10% bonus hull on ships. Aircraft: 40% bonus chance of not being shot down. Only applies to vehicles sent after you have activated the gadget. Lasts for each vehicle until they reach their destination.
  • Radar - Allows you to see how many people are traveling, and what their profession is in that vehicles/ships class.
  • Turbo Engine - 10% Faster vehicles/ships.Only applies to vehicles sent after you have activated the gadget. Lasts for each vehicle until they reach their destination.
  • Spreadsheet - Shows the items that you can earn the most buying from low listings and selling to high bids in different cities in link on gadget page. When viewing items it will also show the top foreign bids on the individual market page. Foreign lowest listing is always shown.
  • Meldal Detector - Shows a list of the top ten cheapest melds in link on gadget page and shows the cost of any meld when you go to the mine that contains it.

Aluminium Gadgets

Last for 3.5 days.

  • Hammer - Increases your equipment's BPH by 25%.
  • Warehouse - Increases inventory limit by 125. Be careful to not be more than 100 over your natural limit when gadget wears out, or you will get items stolen by Bums.
  • Binoculars - Shows the names and vehicle/ship type of the people you are attacking, defending, or have passed, when out on the routes. Also shows in which direction the vehicle/ship was going when you encountered them. \/ means they left from the same port as you. /\ means they left from the port you are heading towards. Only applies to vehicles sent after you have activated the gadget. Lasts for each vehicle until they reach their destination.
  • Armory - Hides your weapons, mods and cannon ammo. Not cannons! No one looking at your inventory can see them. It also increases the amount of time between profile page item refresh from 50 minutes to 2 hours. Armory will delays announcements when moving red+ items between cities for up to two 2 hours.
  • Ledger - You can "watch" items - it will send you a message if any items you are "watching" have been bid on, listed or sold. You will receive a message stating which of these 3 events happened. No details will be in the message, and the "watch" on the item will cancel at this point. Further events will not be recorded till you set another "watch". A ledger also allows you to transfer gold directly to another player. Only one of the two players transferring gold needs an active ledger. You can access your personal monthly sales figures while the ledger is active from a link on the gadget page. Lastly a ledger allows you to make bids/listings in multiples. I.E. 20x30 Item = Twenty at 30g each of Item.
  • Remote Control - Allows the use of a 4th mine at 25BPH. This extra mine cannot use MRs or equipment and does not benefit from the home city bonus. You must own a 4th mine for this gadget to be useful and not wasted.

Iron Gadgets

Last for 20 days.

Discontinued Gadgets

  • Aluminum and Titanium Calculator (disco 6/3/10, replaced by Remote Control) - Shows a whole lot of interesting statistics from Mine Things, like total finds, vehicle battle stats and a whole lot more.

Japhet's explanation: Out with the old and in with the new. The calculator was both the least desired gadget and the most taxing on the server. It has been replaced with something far better -- something that rivals even the almighty hammer. All existing calculators will still perform their advertised function. They can still be traded or horded indefinitely.
